The amygdala signal has been used in laboratory experiments that elicited the 'sensed presence' experience. When you elicit such an experience in a paranormal setting, the the paranormal pollution (or negative energy) can appear as the sensed presence. The same brain parts are involved in sensing a presence from within your mind and from the environment around you, so the same stimulation can elicit both perceptions.
